Do What You Love

The web is such an inspiring place. I love that it’s where we “go to work” every day. I can’t imagine a better job than the one I have right now.

About a year and a half ago, we started using a web framework called Ruby on Rails, and we fell in love. Since this discovery, we’ve started a lot of projects using this framework, and we’ve even completed a couple! Cuppin’, for example, as well as Ladybug, which isn’t publicly released yet but most of our web design clients use all the time. We also have some applications we’ve been working on in our spare time, and we’ve done some projects for clients using Rails as well.

In short, it’s been a Very Good Thing for us. It’s a joy to use, and we can’t imagine having accomplished these things without it. It’s a vehicle for the things we’re passionate about… and one that’s fun to drive no less! Which is why we turn to Rails when we have another passion that we want to bring to the world. In this case, it’s raw foods.

What are raw foods? According to rawfoods.com

Raw and Living Foods are foods that contain enzymes. In general, the act of heating food over 116 degrees F destroys enzymes in food. (Enzymes start to degrade in as little as 106 degrees F). All cooked food is devoid of enzymes, furthermore cooking food changes the molecular structure of the food and renders it toxic. Living and raw foods also have enormously higher nutrient values than the foods that have been cooked.

That’s not the whole story, but that gives you the idea. A raw foods diet is what most people would consider “extremely restrictive.” No meats, no dairy, and very few processed foods are allowed. So you’re probably wondering why anybody in their right mind would choose this diet!

Not surprisingly, it’s for the health benefits. We’ve been on a partly raw foods diet for several months now, and I feel a good ten years younger. We’ve both lost weight, have more energy, and many random health issues have simply vanished. It’s such a healthy diet that we think everyone should give it a try.

Which brings us to the problem. There’s not a single good raw foods recipe sharing site out there. That’s where we come in. We’ve spent the last week of evenings (and sometimes afternoons) working on just such a site. It’s not done yet, but we want to share some of our experiences building the site with you. So expect to hear more from us about this project over the coming days and weeks. We’ll have a “release date” for you real soon!
