Penner-Ash Wine Cellars

By Kandace Brigleb

in Our Work

A modern, product-forward redesign for one of the Valley’s most respected winemakers

Penner-Ash Wine Cellars debuted in 1998 when Lynn (the first female winemaker hired in Oregon) and husband Ron began crafting small batches of wine. Today, they posses an unmatched reputation for phenomenal wine and a stunning, sustainable gravity-flow estate winery. We worked with their team to craft a website that showcases the beauty and passion that is Penner-Ash and to introduce the world to their wine, story, and vineyards.

Penner-Ash is rooted in a particular sense of space with a majority of the vineyards a stone's throw apart. These are carefully cultivated vineyards, rich with intention and abundance. To introduce the vineyards in their entirety and individual vineyards in detail, we created a custom illustrated, interactive vineyard map.

One particular challenge that we met head-on was designing with wine sales in mind. Shipping wine comes with a bevy of rules and regulations that typical e-commerce website do not need to take into account. To keep this site simple, we leveraged the latest technologies and updated photography to create stunning shop and wine pages that still work beautifully and seamlessly with their existing Wine Direct wine and club sales backend.

This also made room for a host of new immersive features, such as a searchable wine library and on-the-fly recommendations for sold out wines.

Penner-Ash has the enthusiasm and energy of a team just getting started. Beyond producing beautiful wine year after year, they are leading the industry with their local fundraising efforts (spearheaded by Ron Penner-Ash) and their meticulously designed winery and tasting room, which boast not only a breathtaking view but were also designed to be integrated into the space around them and kind to the individuals inside.
