Unpacking Coffee Rolls Out Season Two

By Kandace Brigleb

in Studio Notes

We are a cool fifteen episodes in on Season Two of our podcast, Unpacking Coffee. For this season, we not only whipped up a new website, but have also challenged ourselves to craft a custom opening song for each roaster. What else is new? Check out our collaborations and updates.

Roasters in Residence

This season, we are collaborating with the La Marzocco Café in Seattle to cover their roasters in residence which has thus far brought us Counter Culture, Intelligentsia, Miami's Panther Coffee, Santa Cruz's Cat & Cloud, 2014 Roasters of the Year Pilot Coffee Roasters, Tim Wendelboe, and Portland's own Heart Coffee Roasters.  You can follow along by subscribing to the La Marzocco Espresso Subscription.

Roast Magazine

We've also deepened our relationship with Roast Magazine (who shares our episodes with their readers), covering their Micro Roaster of the Year Mudhouse Coffee Roasters and inviting publisher Connie Blumhardt to appear on the show.

Curating Intriguing New Roasters

At the same time, we've focused on sourcing new roasters with vastly diverging and individual approaches, from Modcup Coffee Co. (with their focus on being in the top 1% of modern coffee) to City of Saints (with their artists-infused vibe).

We've also had a chance to talk to roasters with an intense focus, from the fully Colombian Devoción to 100% organic Groundwork Coffee to roast-to-order micro roaster Barkeater to Forty Weight, who is working towards a 100% direct trade model.

Quote Em

We also realized that our interviews are chalk full of information that doesn't see the light of day. Thus, we've started running full interviews as bonus extras with quotes from the characters we've had the great pleasure to get to know through the show.

Keep on Truckin

Believe it or not, Season Two is just getting under way. Keep up with the latest by following Unpacking Coffee on Instagram, Twitter, or checking in on the site. Or, if you are a roaster interested in chatting about an episode, let us know.
